Five Days to “Black Tuesday”
May 8, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Craig Thompson, TDA Executive Director (608) 256-7044 craig.thompson@tdawisconsin.org
Finding a solution to the current budget impasse in time to avoid canceling vital road projects and causing massive layoffs must be everybody's bottom line claims the Transportation Development Association (TDA) in a statement today.
“This budget is clearly going to need both parties in order to pass. That’s not a bad thing,” said Thompson.
And it’s not novel either. “The most recent budget passed the state Assembly with 37 Democratic votes and 23 Republican votes – and it didn’t raid the transportation fund. Just months ago, we applauded these same officials for reaching across party lines to get the job done. Now they must find a way to do it again. People’s safety, the livelihood of over two thousand workers and our overall economy are riding on it,” added Thompson.
“The stakes are tremendously high and so are the emotions. The same passion that has driven individuals into steadfast positions now must drive them to arrive at a solution before it is too late. There are many different ways to solve this problem without raiding the transportation fund," concluded Thompson.
TDA is a statewide alliance representing more than 400 transportation stakeholders committed to working together for the best in transportation. Membership is open to all those interested in the development, maintenance, operation or improvement of transportation facilities and services in Wisconsin. TDA members include businesses, labor, units of government, and organizations, as well as individuals. For more information, visit tdawisconsin.org.
